AMPHIBIOUS ASSAULT SHIP TYPE LPD (LANDING PLATFORM DOCK)
Two 16970 tonnes Landing Platform Dock (LPD) type assault ships for the Royal Navy. The LPDs function as floating command centres, controlling amphibious assaults and deploying and retrieving heavy equipment. Each will operate four Landing Craft Utility (LCUs) and four Landing Craft Vehicles/Personnel (LCVPs). The LPDs are also equipped to operate up to four Westland Sea King HC4 helicopters.
