HMS Turbulent, commissioned 28th April 1984. The first submarine fitted with a propulsor instead of a propeller. Completed refit in 1997 with Sonar 2074, SMCS and Spearfish. All being updated with Type 2076 sonar systems, integrated with SMCS and countermeasures. Tomahawk capability has been progressively fitted from 1999.

The pressure hull and outer surfaces are covered with conformal anechoic noise reduction coatings. Retractable forward hydroplanes and strengthened fins for under ice operations. Diving depth in excess of 300 m (985 ft), although actual operating depth figures are deemed as highly classified information.
